Tibetan Rhodiola is also called Tibetan Ginseng. It grows at 2800-4300 meters in altitude of Tibet Plateau. The unique surviving environment nurtures the best medicinal essence of the herbal plant. It is effective in anti-fatigue, anti-oxidation and anti-aging. In Tibetan classical pharmacopoeia – the Four Medical Tantras which was published in 8th century, Rhodiola was recorded to clear heat in lungs, expel poisonous substances from body and treat epidemic diseases, support vital energy and consolidate physical resistance against diseases. Similar information is also recorded officially in the Tibetan Medicine Volume I of the Drug Standard of Ministry of Public Health of China(1995). The botanical and chemical analysis shows that Rhodiola contains ingredients of salidroside, tyrosot, crenulatin, pyridrde, rhodiosin, ethygallate, gallic acid flavones, trace volatile oil, and 17 kinds of amino acid. Pharmacological studies on animal models have shown that Rhodiola is effective in strengthening the cardiac muscles and adjusting blood deficiency to resist hypoxia in swimming conditions. The studies also got proven effects on Rhodiola’s treatment of cardiovascular diseases and prevention of tumours. Clinical trails have proven that Rhodiola and its substance are effective in enhancing physical strength and body endurance, compensating hypoxia, relieving tiredness and weakness, and improving physical and mental working efficiency.
